A Serving Board Inlaid with Real Crushed Turquoise, Malachite, or Lapis

A great gift for the friend with a beach house, the Marylander who lives for crab season, or anyone whose kitchen could use a little color. Each of these artisan cutting boards has a crab, seahorse, palm tree, or flamingo inlaid in real crushed stone. We don't use colored epoxy. It's turquoise, malachite, lapis, or quartz, set into American hardwood in our Baltimore woodshop.

Why This Stone Inlay Cutting Board Is So Lovable

  • The color comes from real stone. Turquoise is a bright blue-green, malachite is a deep green, and lapis is a rich blue.
  • There are four designs to choose from: a crab, a seahorse, a palm tree, or a flamingo.
  • It's made for serving. Pile it with cheese and crackers and the inlay is the first thing everyone notices.
  • It's butcher block made from sustainably harvested American hardwood, in maple, cherry, or walnut.

Set this board out with cheese and crackers and the stone does the talking. It's a small detail that makes a simple spread feel like an occasion, and when the party's over it looks just as good propped against the backsplash.

Every board is made to order. The design is filled with real crushed stone, never colored epoxy, so what you see is the stone's own color against the wood grain. The stone inlay is sanded smooth and isn't raised above the wood. You choose the wood, and each one has its own personality: maple is light and modern, cherry warms to a deeper red over time, and walnut is rich and dramatic.

Think of this as a serving board more than a chopping board. You can slice on the wood, but avoid cutting directly over the inlay. For everyday chopping, our end grain cutting board is the one to reach for.

It's a housewarming gift for the beach house, a hostess gift for a crab feast, or a wedding gift for the couple who met at the shore. And because we plant a tree in the U.S. for every board we sell, your gift gives back a little, too.

Choose Your Design

Pick your design, wood, and stone from the menu above. The crab comes in maple or cherry with turquoise, malachite, or lapis, and in walnut with turquoise or malachite. The palm tree comes in maple or cherry with turquoise, the seahorse in walnut with turquoise, and the flamingo in cherry with quartz. Looking for something more personal? Frequently Asked Questions

Is the stone inlay real stone?

Yes. The design is filled with real crushed stone, such as turquoise, malachite, or lapis. We don't use colored epoxy. The stone inlay is sanded smooth and isn't raised above the wood.

Can I cut on a board with a stone inlay?

You can slice on the wood, but avoid cutting directly over the stone inlay. These boards are at their best as serving boards for cheese, charcuterie, fruit, or dessert.

How do I care for a wooden cutting board?

Hand wash your board with warm water and mild soap, then prop it up so that it dries on all sides (you can also set it on a cookie rack to elevate it from the counter allowing for good air flow). Avoid soaking it in water. Periodically applying food-safe mineral oil or board conditioner will help maintain its beauty and prevent the wood from drying out.

What type of wood is best for a cutting board?

Hardwoods such as maple, cherry, and walnut are popular choices because they are durable, beautiful, and gentle on knives. Each wood has its own unique grain pattern and color, allowing you to choose a style that best fits your kitchen or gifting occasion.

How long does it take to make my order?

It depends on the product. Each product page lists its production time in the Shipping tab, and personalized pieces are made to order in our Baltimore studio. During the holiday season, allowing extra time is always recommended. If you need it sooner, please email us at kim@wordswithboards.com
