A Monogrammed Serving Board with One Bold Initial, Made in Baltimore

For the newlyweds sharing a last name for the first time, the host who has everything, or the friend who just got the keys, this monogrammed cutting board says it with a single letter. Their initial is cut right through solid American hardwood on the left side of the board, so it's part of the wood itself and not something printed on top. Long and slim, it's shaped for serving: line it with cheese and charcuterie and set it down the middle of the table.

Why This Monogrammed Cutting Board Is So Lovable

  • One initial keeps the design clean and modern, and it sits on the left so the rest of the board stays open for food.
  • The letter is cut through the wood by hand, so it will never fade, peel, or wash away.
  • The long, narrow shape runs down the center of a table or along a sideboard without crowding the plates.
  • It's butcher block made from sustainably forested American hardwood, and when it isn't serving food it doubles as a trivet for hot plates.

Have you heard of grazing boards? They're the extra-long boards caterers fill for big events. This is the at-home version, sized for a cheese course, a row of crostini, or dessert for a small gathering. Between parties it earns its spot on the counter, because a single initial looks as good on display as it does under a baguette.

Each board starts as sustainably forested American hardwood in our Hampden studio in Baltimore. The initial is cut by hand with a scroll saw, then the board is sanded smooth and finished by one of our artisans. Monogramming has been around since the Middle Ages, and you can read more about its history on our blog.

Customers order this board for bridal showers and weddings. One longtime customer told us she can never wrap our boards right away, because they stay out so the whole family can see them first. Giving it to a couple? Use the initial of the last name they share. For one person, a first or last initial both work. If two first names would suit them better, our Long Personalized Cutting Board is the same size with room for names. For every board we sell, we plant a tree in the U.S., so this gift keeps growing long after it's unwrapped.

Make It Yours

Choose the initial and the wood. Maple is light and bright, cherry warms to a deeper red over time, and walnut is rich and dramatic. Not sure which they'd pick? Maple goes with everything. You can also add rubber feet, which are screwed into the bottom so they stay put. They lift the board off the counter so it dries evenly and is easier to pick up.

Details

  • Size 19" x 7.5" x 1 1/8”
  • The wood color may vary slightly from the picture.
  • 4 rubber feet can be added to the bottom. These are screwed on. We highly recommend these for airflow around the board after washing and they also raise the board off the counter a little making it easier to pick up.
  • Made with butcher block, using sustainably forested American hardwoods.
  • For each one sold a tree is planted in the US.
  • American Made in Baltimore, MD

Frequently Asked Questions

Are custom cutting boards a good wedding gift?

Personalized cutting boards are one of the most thoughtful wedding gifts because they are both practical and sentimental. Couples use them for entertaining, meal preparation, and creating memories together in their new home.

Are personalized cutting boards safe to use for food preparation?

Yes! High-quality wooden cutting boards are safe for food prep when properly cared for. We think they really shine when used as a charcuterie board. Personalized cutting boards can be both functional and meaningful, making them a gift that is enjoyed for years to come.

How long does it take to make my order?

It depends on the product. Each product page lists its production time in the Shipping tab, and personalized pieces are made to order in our Baltimore studio. During the holiday season, allowing extra time is always recommended. If you need it sooner, please email us at kim@wordswithboards.com

Can I see a proof before my board is made?

We do not provide proofs unless the board has special design features, such as custom messaging or logos not shown on the web site.

How do I care for a wooden cutting board?

Hand wash your board with warm water and mild soap, then prop it up so that it dries on all sides (you can also set it on a cookie rack to elevate it from the counter allowing for good air flow). Avoid soaking it in water. Periodically applying food-safe mineral oil or board conditioner will help maintain its beauty and prevent the wood from drying out.

Which initial should I choose for a monogram?

For a couple, use the first letter of the last name they share. For one person, a first or last initial both work. If a couple has different last names, one of our boards with two first names may be a better fit.

Proudly Made in America

We believe made in America matters — for the hands that make it, the economy we support, and the planet we all share.

Long Serving Board

I've been ordering special gifts from WordswithBoards for years, and each time I'm impressed over and over again. This last order was for multiple products for bridal showers and weddings, and I needed a little help in personalize the Long Serving Board. One phone call and Kim had a PDF sent to me in no time with multiple options. Part of the joy of ordering is the excitement in viewing the final products when they arrive! I can never wrap them up immediately; they stay out so I can show the rest of the family how great they look. It's always a pleasure to work with WordsWithBoards.
