An Inlay Cutting Board with Your Initial in Real Crushed Stone

A great gift for the couple celebrating an anniversary, the friend with a new kitchen, or the person who is impossible to buy for. This monogram cutting board with stone inlay carries a single initial filled with real crushed turquoise, malachite, or lapis, a pop of color set right into the wood. Each one is made to order in our Baltimore woodshop from sustainably forested American hardwood.

Why This Monogram Cutting Board Is So Lovable

  • The initial is real crushed stone set into the wood. It isn't paint, and it isn't colored epoxy.
  • You pick the stone: turquoise is a bright blue-green, malachite is a deep green, and lapis is a rich blue.
  • It comes in maple, cherry, or walnut. Not sure which wood they'd choose? Maple goes with everything.
  • One initial keeps it simple, so it suits a couple, a family, or one person equally well.

We think of this one as a serving board first. Pile it with cheese and crackers, a loaf of bread, or a small charcuterie spread, and let the initial do the decorating. When it isn't on the table, lean it against the backsplash, where it looks like it belongs. If you do chop on it, keep the knife on the wood and away from the stone.

Every board starts as butcher block in our Hampden woodshop in Baltimore, and the initial is filled with real crushed stone in the same shop. The wood has its own personality, too: maple is light and bright, cherry warms to a deeper red over time, and walnut is rich and dramatic.

Wood is the traditional fifth anniversary gift, and one customer chose the blue stone for her son and daughter-in-law's fifth. It's just as welcome at a wedding, a housewarming, or the holidays. Some people choose the stone for what it has long stood for: turquoise for good fortune, malachite for balance, and lapis for protection. Kari, a Baltimore jewelry designer who works with these stones, writes more about them at Become Spellbound. And because we plant a tree in the U.S. for every board we sell, your gift gives back a little, too. Looking for a state or a crab instead? See the rest of our inlay cutting boards.

Make It Yours

Choose your wood, choose your stone, and tell us the initial: a first name, a last name, or the family name they share. You can also add rubber feet, which lift the board off the counter so it dries evenly and is easier to pick up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the stone inlay real stone?

Yes. The inlay is real crushed stone, such as turquoise, malachite, or lapis, set into the wood. Because it's natural stone, the color varies a little from board to board.

Can I cut on a board with stone inlay?

You can cut on the wood, but avoid cutting directly over the stone inlay. We think these boards are at their best as serving boards for cheese and charcuterie.

How long does it take to make my order?

It depends on the product. Each product page lists its production time in the Shipping tab, and personalized pieces are made to order in our Baltimore studio. During the holiday season, allowing extra time is always recommended. If you need it sooner, please email us at kim@wordswithboards.com

Can I see a proof before my board is made?

We do not provide proofs unless the board has special design features, such as custom messaging or logos not shown on the web site.

How do I care for a wooden cutting board?

Hand wash your board with warm water and mild soap, then prop it up so that it dries on all sides (you can also set it on a cookie rack to elevate it from the counter allowing for good air flow). Avoid soaking it in water. Periodically applying food-safe mineral oil or board conditioner will help maintain its beauty and prevent the wood from drying out.
