Crumbs and residue from bread, crackers, and other foods with gluten can end up on a shared board and transfer to the next thing cut on it. Many households that cook both ways keep one board just for gluten free food and never use it for anything else. A clearly marked board makes that easy for family and guests to follow. For medical guidance, check with your doctor or dietitian.
It's a gift they'll use every day. In a kitchen where some people eat gluten and some don't, a board clearly marked for gluten free food tells family and guests which one is off limits to regular bread and crackers, so the person who has to be careful doesn't have to keep explaining. It's a thoughtful gift for someone who was just diagnosed, too.
Yes, it's a working cutting board, so you can chop on it as well as serve from it. Wash it by hand afterward and stand it upright to dry.
The personalization field on this page shows the maximum length, and it varies by product and size. Not sure your wording will fit? Email or text us before you order and we'll help you find a layout that looks great.
It depends on the product. Each product page lists its production time in the Shipping tab, and personalized pieces are made to order in our Baltimore studio. During the holiday season, allowing extra time is always recommended. If you need it sooner, please email us at kim@wordswithboards.com
Hand wash your board with warm water and mild soap, then prop it up so that it dries on all sides (you can also set it on a cookie rack to elevate it from the counter allowing for good air flow). Avoid soaking it in water. Periodically applying food-safe mineral oil or board conditioner will help maintain its beauty and prevent the wood from drying out.
A personalized cutting board combines beauty, function, and sentiment. Unlike many gifts that are quickly forgotten, a custom board becomes part of everyday life and they will never forget who gave them this special and unique gift.
We believe made in America matters — for the hands that make it, the economy we support, and the planet we all share.
In our Hampden woodshop, our artisans cut, sand, and finish our boards and lazy susans by hand, whether the words are hand-cut on a scroll saw or engraved in our studio. No shortcuts. Ever.
We use sustainably forested American hardwoods, and for every cutting board we sell, a tree gets planted right here in the U.S.
