A Wooden Cheese Board in Solid Cherry, Engraved in Baltimore

A great gift for the cheese lover, the host who always has a wedge of something out on the counter, or the friend who just got the keys to a new place. This cheese board with handle is cut from solid cherry and has a little line drawing laser engraved on the front: a round of cheese with a slice missing and a wedge set beside it. It tells everyone what goes on the board before you've put a thing on it.

Why This Cheese Board with Handle Is So Lovable

  • The handle makes it easy to carry from the kitchen to the table, or out to the porch, with one hand.
  • The cheese line art is laser engraved in our Baltimore woodshop, so the design is part of the wood and won't peel or wash off.
  • Two sides, two jobs: serve on the engraved front, then flip it over and chop on the plain back. That keeps the engraving looking its best.
  • It's solid cherry, with a warm, reddish grain, so no two boards look exactly alike.

Set it out with a wedge of brie, a few slices of aged cheddar, crackers, and a handful of grapes, and the board does the rest. It's an easy size for a cheese course for a few friends or a snack for two on a weeknight. When the party's over, turn it over and slice a baguette or an apple on the back. Add our little wooden mouse spreader for the soft cheese, and it looks like you've caught the one who took the missing slice.

Each board is made from solid American cherry in our Hampden woodshop in Baltimore, and the cheese art is laser engraved in the same shop. Like any wood, the grain and color vary a little from board to board, which is part of the charm.

It's a natural hostess gift for the holidays, a housewarming present, or a thank-you for the friend who's always hosting. Want to give them ideas for what to pile on it? Tuck in The Cheese Board Deck, with fifty board ideas to get them started. And for every board we sell, we plant a tree.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which side of an engraved board should I cut on?

Serve on the engraved side and do your chopping on the plain back. A knife can scar engraving, so keeping your slicing on the back keeps the design looking its best.

How do I care for a wooden cutting board?

Hand wash your board with warm water and mild soap, then prop it up so that it dries on all sides (you can also set it on a cookie rack to elevate it from the counter allowing for good air flow). Avoid soaking it in water. Periodically applying food-safe mineral oil or board conditioner will help maintain its beauty and prevent the wood from drying out.

Is a wooden board a good hostess gift?

It's one of the easiest gifts to bring to a dinner or holiday gathering. A wooden board gets used long after the party's over, for cheese, bread, or dessert. We never include pricing on the packing slip, so you can also ship it straight to the host.

Can I add a name to this board?

This design comes as shown, without personalization. If you'd like names or your own words, take a look at our personalized cutting boards, or email kim@wordswithboards.com about a custom project.

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 1–2 business days after they're ready. Personalized and made-to-order items are made first, and the Shipping tab on each product page lists that production time.

Once we generate a shipping label, you'll get a confirmation email with a tracking number. It can take up to 24 hours for the carrier to start updating tracking information, so don't worry if it shows nothing right away.

Sending this as a gift? We never include pricing on the packing slip — so it's safe to ship directly to the recipient.
