The Small Wood Cutting Board That Stays Out on the Counter

For the couple setting up their first kitchen, the kid who loves to help with dinner, or the friend who would rather put out cheese for two than turn on the oven, this small personalized cutting board is the one that fits. We cut their name into solid American hardwood by hand with a scroll saw, so it belongs to the board for good. It's small enough to keep within reach and personal enough that nobody wants to put it away.

Why This Small Personalized Cutting Board Is So Lovable

  • It's sized for everyday serving: cheese and crackers for two, a sliced apple after school, or a sandwich at lunch.
  • The name is hand-cut with a scroll saw into the top edge of the board and sanded smooth, so it can't fade, peel, or wash off.
  • Kids who love to cook get a board that fits their hands, with their own name on it.
  • It's butcher block made from responsibly forested American hardwood, sturdy enough for daily slicing and good-looking enough to leave on display.

Big boards come out for parties. This one gets used on an ordinary Tuesday. It holds a wedge of cheese and a handful of crackers, the lemon you're slicing for drinks, or toast and jam on a slow morning. One customer told us it's the cutest thing in her kitchen, with a personalized look that still feels grown-up. Another said the boards she gives never end up in a drawer. If they'll want to show it off, add a cutting board holder.

Every board is made in our Hampden studio in Baltimore. One of our artisans cuts each letter with a scroll saw, then sands it smooth by hand. This layout looks best with six letters or more. If the name is shorter, take a look at our small vertical board, where shorter names look their best.

Customers give this small wood cutting board to couples-to-be as an engagement or wedding gift, and to the young cooks in their lives. Plenty of them order one for a friend and then come back for more. We plant a tree in the U.S. for every board we sell, so even a small gift leaves something growing. It may be the smallest board in their kitchen, but it's the one with their name on it, and that's the one they'll reach for.

Make It Yours

Add a first name, two names, a family name, a nickname, or a short saying, up to 10 letters. Choose Classic or Script lettering, then pick your wood: maple is light and goes with everything, cherry is warm, and walnut is rich and dark. You can also add a laser-engraved date, or rubber feet that lift the board off the counter so it dries evenly and is easier to pick up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size cutting board should I choose?

The right size depends on how you plan to use it. Smaller boards are perfect for meal prep for 1-2 people or for serving cheese and appetizers. Larger boards work well for bigger meal preparation, entertaining, and charcuterie displays. If you're giving a gift, consider the recipient's cooking style, how much entertaining they do and available kitchen space.

How many characters can I personalize?

The personalization field on this page shows the maximum length, and it varies by product and size. Not sure your wording will fit? Email or text us before you order and we'll help you find a layout that looks great.

How long does it take to make my order?

It depends on the product. Each product page lists its production time in the Shipping tab, and personalized pieces are made to order in our Baltimore studio. During the holiday season, allowing extra time is always recommended. If you need it sooner, please email us at kim@wordswithboards.com

Can I see a proof before my board is made?

We do not provide proofs unless the board has special design features, such as custom messaging or logos not shown on the web site.

How do I care for a wooden cutting board?

Hand wash your board with warm water and mild soap, then prop it up so that it dries on all sides (you can also set it on a cookie rack to elevate it from the counter allowing for good air flow). Avoid soaking it in water. Periodically applying food-safe mineral oil or board conditioner will help maintain its beauty and prevent the wood from drying out.

Proudly Made in America

We believe made in America matters — for the hands that make it, the economy we support, and the planet we all share.

great gifts and beyond!!!

I love this company!!! The quality of their products are amazing. I give many of their items as wedding, engagement or special occasions gifts. Everyone loves them and comments how well they are made. Instead of getting stored away in a drawer, they always get displayed so I would suggest getting a holder to compliment any board. Not only are they attractive and personal, they are very useful for everyday life. I've have purchased several different style and love all of them. If there were 10 stars, I would give it to Kim and her company!!!

I love my cutting board! It is the cutest thing I have in my kitchen. It is such a quality looking cutting board and gives my kitchen just the right personalized look but still looks "adult".
I plan on purchasing more cutting boards as gifts because my cutting board is perfect and I know soooo many other people that will love them as much as I love mine.
