An Oven Rack Push Pull Stick, Hand-Cut in Our Baltimore Shop

This oven rack puller is for the baker who's tired of burnt knuckles, or the friend who still reaches into a hot oven with a folded dish towel. We cut it by hand on a scroll saw in our Baltimore shop, in the shape of a squirrel or a shark. It slides a hot rack out and pushes it back in while your hands stay clear of the heat. It's useful, it's a little bit silly, and it makes people smile every time they reach for it.

Why This Oven Rack Puller Is So Lovable

  • The shape does the work: the spot under the squirrel's ear or the shark's top fin hooks the rack to pull it out, and the spot under the squirrel's head or the shark's mouth pushes it back in.
  • It works in a full-size oven or a toaster oven, anywhere a rack slides in and out.
  • Choose the squirrel, cut from leopard wood with a speckled grain that looks a lot like fur, or the shark, cut from maple. Each one has a glass eye, which gives it a little personality.
  • It arrives in a cotton muslin bag, so it's ready to give with no wrapping needed.

Every cook knows the move: mitt on, door open, a quick lean toward a rack that's 400 degrees. Mitts are bulky, dish towels slip, and the inside of your forearm usually pays for it. An oven push pull stick fixes that. Pull the rack toward you to check a casserole or turn the roasted vegetables, then push it back and close the door. Once it lives next to your stove, you'll reach for it every time you bake.

We cut every oven rack puller on a scroll saw in our Hampden studio in Baltimore, then sand it smooth so it feels good in your hand. The squirrel is leopard wood, named for its speckled grain, and the shark is maple. Because each one is cut by hand, the grain and color vary a little from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike.

It's an easy hostess gift, a stocking stuffer, or a thank-you for the friend who always brings dessert. Give the squirrel to the animal lover in your life, or the shark to whoever runs the beach house kitchen. For the friend who makes pizza at home, pair it with one of our pizza peels. It's a small gift, but it's one they'll use for years and think of you every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use an oven rack puller?

Hook the spot under the squirrel's ear or the shark's top fin onto the front of the oven rack and pull it toward you. To slide the rack back in, push with the spot under the squirrel's head or the shark's mouth. It works in full-size ovens and toaster ovens, so your hands stay clear of the heat.

Can wooden kitchen tools go in the dishwasher?

No. The heat and standing water in a dishwasher can crack or warp wood. Wipe it with a damp cloth when needed, let it dry fully, and rub in a little oil if the wood starts to look dry. The Care tab on each product page lists the oil we recommend for that piece.

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 1–2 business days after they're ready. Personalized and made-to-order items are made first, and the Shipping tab on each product page lists that production time.

Once we generate a shipping label, you'll get a confirmation email with a tracking number. It can take up to 24 hours for the carrier to start updating tracking information, so don't worry if it shows nothing right away.

Sending this as a gift? We never include pricing on the packing slip — so it's safe to ship directly to the recipient.
