For the couple, the family, or the friend who deserves more than another registry gift, this is the personalized cutting board that started it all — names hand-cut into solid American hardwood, one letter at a time. It's our best seller, and the one Oprah and Drew Barrymore put on their own lists. Choose maple, cherry, or walnut, add the names that matter, and you've made something they'll still be using in twenty years.
Some gifts get unwrapped, admired for a minute, and quietly retired to a closet. This isn't one of them. The personalized cutting board is the piece we've been making the longest — it's what Kim built in the basement of our 1850s Baltimore row home back in 2013 — and it's still the board people write us about years after they gave it.
Here's what makes it different from the engraved boards you'll find everywhere else: the names aren't printed, branded, or lasered on as an afterthought. Each letter is hand-cut with a scroll saw by one of our artisans and set right into the top edge of the board, so the personalization is part of the wood itself. It won't fade, peel, or wear off in the wash. Most people choose two first names with an ampersand between them, but a last name, a nickname, or a favorite saying works just as beautifully — and you can add a little heart or plus sign between the names if you like.
You choose the wood, and each one has its own personality. Maple is light and bright. Cherry warms to a deeper red over time. Walnut is rich and dramatic — the showpiece. All three are sustainably forested American hardwoods, cut, sanded, and finished by hand in our Hampden studio in Baltimore.
Customers reach for this board for weddings, engagements, anniversaries, closing gifts, milestone birthdays, and client thank-yous — the moments where a generic gift would feel like a missed opportunity. It serves a cheese spread as easily as it takes a chef's knife, so it actually lives on the counter instead of in a drawer.
And because a gift like this should outlast the occasion that prompted it, we plant a tree in the U.S. for every board we sell.
We believe Made in America matters for our economy and our Planet.
