Wood Serving Tray

We are very excited to announce a new wood serving tray collection in collaboration with Tim Arnold, a Nashville maker who has mastered the art of the Shaker style. We were instantly drawn to the Shaker style wood serving tray, each one a labor of love. Tim's passion is evident in his work and we knew right away we wanted to share them with you. We offer the wood serving tray in two sizes and a choice of 3 personalization styles. Each wood serving tray is made from cherry wood and is built to last.

The Shaker Style History

This style of furniture was first created by the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, who commonly became known as the Shakers. The sect was founded in the 18th century in England and came to America with their mother Ann Lee (the same name as Mike’s mother) in 1774. Women were leaders and they believed in equality of the sexes (smart people!). They practiced values of simplicity, utility, and honesty, which are reflected in this wood serving tray. Ornamentation was considered insincere, so they turned to minimalism as their creative outlet. This is not to say what they made was plain, they often included carvings of leaves or acorns in their furniture. They built items that were needed in daily life. The style is still relevant in today’s décor. If you like simple and functional design using only the finest materials then this style is for you.

My Top 5 Favorite Uses for a Wood Serving Tray

Wood Serving Tray

  1. Grab a wood serving tray anytime things may be falling out of your hands and skip the need for a second trip.
  2. A wood serving tray is a great way to serve your favorite drink and nosh. Whether you have company seated outside on a nice summer day or friends gathered around your kitchen table, a beautiful wood serving tray is the perfect backdrop.
  3. Keep a wood serving tray on a bedside table, vanity or dresser to hold all your essentials and keep the clutter factor down. A perfect vessel for your perfume bottles or favorite jewelry pieces. Men will love it too!
  4. Your ottoman needs a wood serving tray! Arrange a collection of coffee table books, flowers and some mints for a quick and easy way to display items while still keeping them within reach.
  5. A must-have for Breakfast in bed. If you don’t own a wood serving tray how do you expect your partner or kids to serve you breakfast in bed? It’s the little things in life that keep us happy day-to-day.

A wood serving tray can be used as a centerpiece in any room. They add a touch of personality and the customization makes them a keepsake which can be handed down. The Shakers built items like a wood serving tray because they were needed in daily life and if you are like me you only want things in your life that are functional and beautiful. Otherwise, they become dust collectors.

About the personalization. We are offering 3 design styles, which are laser engraved on the surface of your wood serving tray. We have a single letter, a monogram or names and date option. We apply a wipe on poly so if you serve food in your wood serving tray just make sure it's on/in a dish.

Tim also makes oval boxes which is one of the most famous Shaker creations. Look for us to add those in the coming months.
